How to create a bootable USB on Linux?

I will assume you’ve already downloaded the desired Linux ISO file and have access to a computer running any Linux distribution and a USB drive.

Insert the USB flash drive into the computer’s USB port.

Identify the name of the USB drive using:

It will be something like /dev/sdx. Verify the size of the device.

Ensure that the USB drive is not mounted:

sudo umount /dev/sdx1

You may now proceed to flash the Linux ISO image to the USB drive. Make sure you replace the following command with the correct values:

sudo dd bs=4M if=/path/to/linux.iso of=/dev/sdx status=progress oflag=sync

A progress bar will show you the status of the flashing process and might take a couple of minutes depending on the size of the ISO file and the speed of the USB drive.
