Indian man found dead after quarrel at Toa Payoh void deck

My dad came home last night and was telling me that there were a lot of policemen and officers gathered opposite our block and he wasn’t allowed to drive through until he told them he was a resident here.

I looked out the window and indeed, my neighbourhood was swarmed with men seemingly standing around Block 170.

Next morning, driving past the block, we guessed that there was probably a fight, more serious than usual which probably explained the presence of our hardworking police force.

Only when I saw the evening news then did we realise the magnitude of the incident.

Police were alerted of a quarrel at 10.30pm and arrived at the scene to find a man with injuries lying at the void deck. The 36 years old victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at 11pm.

A 57 years old man, the neighbourhood’s cleaning supervisor, has been arrested in connection with the case. He was caught at about 10.55pm near Block 168 Toa Payoh Lorong 1.

The suspect will be charged in court on Monday with murder, which carries the death penalty.
