I’m not usually a fan of Korean/Japanese music that I don’t understand other than the random phrases of English thrown in here and there. But it’s hard not to take a second look when everyone around me is talking about them and when on YouTube, watching their videos.
Anyway, I’ve seen this question being thrown around after watching this Girls’ Generation (SNSD) video, Oh!;
Who’s who? Why those numbers?
Taeyeon: 9
Jessica: 22
Sunny: 12
Tiffany: 0
Hyoyeon: 32
Yuri: 21
Sooyoung: 24
Yoona: 7
Seohyun: 11
Apparently, those are their favourite numbers! That’s it!
Actually the numbers do represent something.
Every SNSD member chose their number for a reason and had it printed on their outfits for each Oh! performance. Well, except for “Brighter Than Mushrooms” Tiffany, but that’ll be explained later.
Leader Taeyeon chose number 9 to reference the 9-membered SNSD family. Fans probably guessed this reasoning, but it’s debatable simplicity is nicely combined with subtle depth.
The shikshin Sooyoung danced in 24 to represent her wish to be with fans 24/7.
Maknae and We Got Married-wife of CNBlue’s YongHwa, Seohyun wore number 11 to signify that she wants to always be “Number One”.
The Legally Blonde Jessica sported 22 since she will be of that age on her upcoming birthday.
And with similar reasoning, “Black Pearl” Yuri wore 21 because that was her current age.
Dancing star Hyoyeon performed in her favorite number, 32.
Aegyo-filled and chicken-catching master Sunny adorned 12 to combine her favorite numbers: 1 and 2.
Choosing based on her lucky number was “Choding” Yoona, who picked 7.
And Tiffany, who’s geared with the number 0, actually chose 01. However, a printing error occurred and her outfits were branded without the “1.”
