The first branch was in business on the first day when the Parkway Parade Shopping Centre was opened! You could either have buffet or a la carte from waitresses in trad. korean dress. The quality then was much much better than now. Even had expensive items like beef tongue (heavenly!) Yaohan was occupying the basement space that is now Cold Storage and the first and second floor of space above it, just moved from Seaview Hotel across the road. That was about 30 years ago. Feeling nostalgic.
Incidentally the same shop space on the 2nd floor of P.P. is now a japanese restaurent prob. still run by the same operator.
I checked out the location a few days ago. The old Souel Garden Restaurent in Parkway is now occupied by Ichiban Jap Restaurent. The buffer dinner price for Seoul Garden 30 years ago was $13.95 (inclusive of all surchages, no weekend surcharge). It had a Korean temple facade, even one awning styled like the temple roof.
BTW, the last time I checked Hanriver at East Point still retains some of the original quality (but only partly). There is one new korean bbq restaurent in Katong village which I haven’t tried.
i remember a time when seoul garden was a sit-down buffet thing. and the waitresses wore traditional korean gowns.
FOR REAL?!
I’ve been a Seoul Garden customer for quite a number of years but have never saw the waitresses don korean gowns?
