Fewer Seats on MRT
There was an article in The Straits Times like about a week ago about SMRT removing 1/3 of seats from their trains.
Okay, so SMRT guys wanna earn EVEN more money, their trains, their tracks. Nothing much we pitiful commuters can do anyway.
BUT, please I beg you SMRT, don’t come up with such a lame reason. An excerpt from the particular article;
Trains on the North-East Line are unaffected by this change, which the Land Transport Authority (LTA) says aims to give standing commuters more space.
The intention is not to fit more people on the train, it added.
…because people would rather stand than seat.

Who cares what the supposed intention is when the effect is eventually going to be that more passengers are going to get in — if the measure really creates more space for standing passengers.
In any case, what’s the difference? Even if we don’t consider that the passenger load will increase, the increased standing space will only be shared by passengers that used to be able to have a seat. Increased standing space shared by more people –> Big difference? These people are either fools or are taking people for fools.
Taking Singaporeans for fools, that seems to be SMRT’s mindset seeing their “excuse”.
I guess such matters aren’t up to us pitiful commuters to decide?
